Deadbolt’s Manchester Halloween Special has been announced – All Hallows Eve

Deadbolt Manchester - All Hallows Eve - Oct 21 - Red Cardinal Music

Halloween may not be on Saturday this year, but it’s not stopping Deadbolt from throwing a party at Night People  on 30th October.

The event will start with a live gig with performances from Junior, Downcast and Passionflower.

Welsh pop punk band Junior are back for another Deadbolt gig! Since playing the Deadbolt Festival in 2017, they released their second album – Beautiful Life – and have toured all over the UK. Their catchy pop punk sound and the charisma of the frontman Mark Andrews (who you may know for his high flying wrestling in WWE/NXT) are guaranteed to get a crowd bouncing.

Bristol based alt band Downcast have been storming the scene since 2018 and plan to release their debut album next year. This July they released Britannia Mills to a great reception, Kerrang! Magazine said “the sheer effort, execution and honesty here mark downcast out as a treat for those with lost souls and broken hearts.’

Warrington based post-emo acoustic act Passionflower has been appearing at Deadbolt gigs for many years and always managed to stun our crowd with his soulful voice. His debut album “To Bloom Is To Grow” is due to be released on November 5th so this is a great  chance for fans to get a sneak peak of what is to come.

All Hallows Eve will see the return of two Deadbolt favourites – Jon Mahon and Sean Smith. When he’s not DJing on Kerrang! Radio during the day, or leading teams on Rock The Week, Jon Mahon’s high energy clubnight sets get everyone up moving without fail with his mix of alternative and EDM music. With Sean Smith’s natural charisma as a frontman for The Blackout and Raiders and as a host for Sappenin’ Podcast, it’s no wonder he can get a crowd dancing. Both guest DJs will be in the main room helping the Deadbolt DJs to bring the party with the best in emo, pop punk, metal and alternative anthems in the main room. In Room 2 the Deadbolt DJs will be playing nothing but the heaviest tunes all night.

As per Deadbolt tradition, there will be games throughout the night to win prizes. Deadbolt All Hallows Eve is sponsored by Fireball who will be providing giveaways to win on the night!

Our friends at Modern Streets have the Pop Punk aesthetic DOWN, and will be selling items during the night as well as hosting a game where you can win one of FIVE prizes.

Lou’s Hot Sauce will be making their way down to Deadbolt to host a hot sauce challenge!
Lou’s Hot Sauce collaborates with some of the biggest alt bands, including Deadbolt favourites such as Bring Me The Horizon, While She Sleeps and You Me At Six, so check out their delicious range and prepare for the hottest challenge around.

Manchester-based brutal Horror-inspired merch is PERFECT for this time of year, right? Our buddies at Unusual Horror will be with us all night throwing out freebies and partying like Lucifer himself.

On the night there will be prizes for the best costumes, but don’t worry if you don’t find an outfit in time, we will have an SFX artist on hand to help you to get spooky!

Join the Facebook event to make sure you don’t miss the next bands to be announced and to make song requests. If your birthday is in October, contact the Deadbolt Facebook page to be added to the birthday list for free goodies.

Advance tickets for the event can be purchased from See TicketsSkiddleFatsomaTicketlineTicketweb and our website for just £7 for combined gig and club tickets or £4 for club only.

Both bands have been played since the beginning of Deadbolt in 2011 and are massively loved by the crowd. Deadbolt DJs, along with Tasmin Taylor, will be throwing in the biggest hits, cult favourites and hidden gems from both bands throughout the night in addition to the usual Deadbolt hits.

She recently became one of the team captains for the weekly online quiz show Rock The Week on The Heavy Network and also DJed at the Download Festival Pilot. Alternative party clubnight, Deadbolt, are celebrating their tenth birthday with a two room party at Night People in Manchester on Saturday 7th August and a double venue party at The Shipping Forecast and Jimmy’s in Liverpool on Friday 30th July.

Deadbolt is known in Manchester and Liverpool as a chaotic clubnight where people can enjoy a party vibe a little different from the traditional clubbing experiences. Deadbolt creates a house party atmosphere with live performances, interactive games and giveaways – and all of this is to a mix of emo, metal, rock, pop punk and alternative anthems.

Although their main clubnights are based in Manchester and Liverpool, in the last ten years, Deadbolt has been involved with events in other cities including London, Edinburgh, Bangor, Dublin, Bristol, York, Sheffield and Charlotte (North Carolina, USA). They have seen guest appearances from many acts within the alternative scene including Benji Webbe (Skindred), Tek-One, Bury Tomorrow, All Time Low and Hot Milk.

As with previous years, Deadbolt’s birthday will be celebrated with live music from some of the UK’s best upcoming alternative bands followed by club nights jam-packed with giveaways and guest DJs.

In Liverpool, the birthday celebrations will begin at 7pm with live performances at The Shipping Forecast from Raiders, Rosen Bridge, Decay, Passionflower and Overset.

During both events there will be opportunities for party goers to participate in party games to win goodies from friends of Deadbolt. In Manchester, giveaways will come from Reap What You Sow Clothing, Fireball Whisky, You’re So Cool Prints and Good Omens Tattoo. In Liverpool giveaways will come from Fireball Whisky, You’re So Cool Prints and NRTH.

The Manchester birthday party will see the launch of Deadbolt’s new second room – Catalyst. Catalyst’s music policy is pure nostalgia with an aim to remind people of the music that introduced them to the alternative scene. For the debut outing, Deadbolt have reunited several DJs from the legendary Manchester rock club Rock Kitchen to take over the room for the night.

While Deadbolt and guests celebrate at Jimmy’s in Liverpool, Deadbolt’s sister brand Boneyard will be throwing the second Liverpool clubnight in The Shipping Forecast. Resident Boneyard DJ Mike Harper Lee will be playing the best in metal, hardcore, nu metal, industrial, metalcore, progressive and other metal subgenres.

Liam Connolly, founder and director of Deadbolt, said: “When we started out, our main aim was to create a chaotic night that stood out from other alternative nights by pulling together the best brands in the scene for games, fun challenges and giveaways. Our music policy has always been to play a mix of the classics whilst also championing the newer bands on the scene, which is why it’s so important for us to mix the live and party elements for our birthday bashes. The last decade has given us some fantastic memories and these birthday events are our way of celebrating those by bringing together our friends for a huge party!”

He added: “We’ve always had a loyal and fun loving crowd and without them we wouldn’t be celebrating such a big milestone. Since the birthday parties are our first events of 2021, we wanted to make sure we pulled together something extra special for them. Luckily for us, we have some extremely talented friends within the alt scene that are always up for helping up to create the party vibe! We look forward to more exciting events going into our eleventh year.”

10 Questions with new Deadbolt DJ Chris Dempsey

Chris Dempsey Joins Deadbolt DJ Team - Red Cardinal Music

Deadbolt has always been committed to bringing the freshest and most exciting DJs to the audience since the first night back in 2011, and that isn’t changing anytime soon. At the upcoming tenth birthday celebrations, newcomer Chris Dempsey will be joining the resident ranks and bringing his years of experience to the team.

Chris is a well-known face in the Merseyside Alternative scene, and has brought the party every time, from local clubs such as Hotel California in the Wirral to the mighty Download Festival. To make sure he isn’t a stranger, we asked him 10 questions. Enjoy!

How long have you been DJing?

Since I was 18, so eleven years now. God, that makes me feel old!

How did you get started in the club scene?

I used to play in various bands as a vocalist, guitarist and writer. After a skiing injury at 17 I couldn’t play, but I couldn’t stop making music. From there, I got more into DJing and went from playing some crazy, insane house parties (some of them my own), to landing a full time residency at the largest alternative venue on the Wirral every weekend, to playing across the country and at Download Festival.  A lot of people knew of my work already though, so that helped.

What is your worst DJ experience?

A venue I was playing at had a blackout during a storm when we were performing, outside, in a tent. It just felt apocalyptic. Everything that could go wrong did. I think Drew from The Midnight Beast was there too. Just made the whole thing so much worse.

Top 3 bands – go!

Bring Me The Horizon, Hollywood Undead & A Day To Remember. These guys just straight up grind, and massively influence both my play style and mentality on so many levels. I feel that as I’ve grown up they’ve grown alongside me, so everything they sing about has been relevant to my life and experiences at the time.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

Legit? Foo Fighters at Manchester Arena (now AO Arena). The energy, the anticipation, and Dave Grohl! He truly is the nicest guy in rock and roll.

What’s your favourite track to drop in a set?

Who has favourites anymore? Mine change weekly depending on what I’ve discovered and what I’m vibing with at the time. But as a performer? Every song is my favourite, because I love watching the night progress and watching different people bond. It’s a privilege to be given the ability to make people connect in such a positive way.

What can we expect you to bring to the table at Deadbolt?

I’m bringing massive tunes, anthems and a few curveballs. Being in tune with the crowd is what I live for and I intend to bring the party hard. Expect the unexpected!. I’ve been in the game a long time and at this level there’s no messing around. You’ve got to keep your ear to the floor,  be passionate and love what you do to commit as long as I have. You need to live that life and never quit.

We all have secrets. Musically speaking, what’s your biggest guilty pleasure?

I love Maroon Five. Even saw them in Amsterdam at the Ziggadome. But I’m majorly into soundtracks too!

Favourite food?

My dad’s Paella. We’re half Latino, half Irish and it just feels like home. That or a proper Irish stew!

Big one to finish… what’s your #1 song of all time?

Personally it’s Toploader – Dancing in the Moonlight. Did you know that’s a cover, the original is by King Harvest? The original is frankly awful. But the cover? That takes me back to being a kid and watching my dad dance around the kitchen whilst cooking dinner, it’s precious.  But beyond that, it shows to the world that there’s no right or wrong with music, which I firmly believe in.

Catch Chris Dempsey on the decks at the Deadbolt Tenth Birthday specials, coming this Summer to Manchester and Liverpool.
